The Overview of our Project
Throughout this project we have gone through the history of racial
discrimination and tried to analyze its current state.
We have studied how racism effect different spheres of social life in the
Southern States of America
To make it easier for our readers to understand the topic, we decided
too to add a small massage with brief history
of racism. We started with 17th century and first years of
slavery, we also did not forget to describe the process of segregation and
civil right movement.
But the main part of this project is about racism in different spheres
of social life.
First of all, we’ve added some fundamental things like who is the main victim of racism and what spheres exactly are affected.
In order to deal with geographical aspect of our research, we’ve added a
special map of racism and highlighted
the most racist states and towns in
the Unites States. All of them appeared to be in the South which coincides with
the field of our study.
The first thing we studied was the aspect of social problems (like problems with communication, job, prejudgment etc.)
We found out that black people nowadays face discrimination practically
everywhere. Going to the restaurant can always end up with a scandal and simple
request to visit the toilet can lead to the police station.
Applying for job is also a big problem
for modern African Americans. Stereotypes and prejudices about black people
being unreliable and lazy prevent people from finding a good working place and
feeding themselves and their families. Black people a less likely to get called
for an interview and usually get smaller wages then white people do.
The other problem lies in groups of people like white supremacists. These people are not regular racists, they do not limit themselves to mere insults, but often move to actions, usually quite brutal ones.
It also appeared that American legislation is also influenced by racism.
We found the most racist law in the
United States and described it.
But, fortunately, there are a lot of people who disagree with the
current situation with racism and fight for rights of black people. These
people organize social movements – heirs
of the Civil Right Movement, and we’ve also added some words about them and
their activities.
There also are some examples of racism in education and it shows us how horrible it is, that even children suffer from discrimination.
In the end of our project, we’ve added an inspirational video of American YouTube blogger, music video director and rights activist from St Louis, Missouri called Richard Williams AKA Prince EA. This video tells us about how stupid it is to divide people by race and consider them completely different because of that.
We completely agree with that blogger and want this world to be a better place for everyone.
